Legend has it that before AHO Rugby was App State's collegiate rugby club, the club began as a loose alliance of mountain men who started playing rugby in a farmer's field somewhere off AHO Rd in Boone, NC. This can't be confirmed, but what is for sure is that AHO Rugby was born on a mountain top, raised in a cave.

Belmont Abbey College is a private, Catholic liberal arts college in Belmont, North Carolina. It was founded in 1876 by the Benedictine monks of Belmont Abbey. Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892.

East Carolina University is a public university in Greenville, North Carolina. The men's Rugby Club has represented ECU in regional and national competitions, the team combines athleticism, teamwork, and a strong sense of community since 1975.

Elon University is a nationally recognized leader in engaged, experiential learning that prepares graduates to be creative, resilient, ambitious and ethical citizens.  Our Rugby Club was established in 1995 and competes in the Southern Rugby Conference.

RADFORD, VA 

​Radford University is a public university located in the beautiful New River Valley of southwest Virginia. Radford boasts a very proud rugby tradition. The Highlanders have won two USA Rugby DII National Championships, in 2003 and in 2008. Our club is truly a central part of campus life at Radford and gets to enjoy our own dedicated rugby pitch which sits next to the New River that runs just along the edge of our campus. Radford hopes to get back to their winning ways as we rebuild our program and rugby culture.

Roanoke College is a private liberal arts college in Salem, Virginia with approximately 2,000 students. The men’s rugby program is a a club sport at RC and was started in 2008.

CHARLOTTE, NC

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte was founded in 1946 with the Rugby Club being established in 1989. The university is located in the heart of Charlotte and is the only club to have a grass field and in-ground rugby poles.

CHARLOTTSEVILLE, VA

Club rugby first came to the University of Virginia in 1961, started by a small group of law students. UVA joined the Chesapeake Collegiate Rugby Conference in the fall of 2016.  In 2010, Virginia accepted the invitation to join the Atlantic Coast Rugby League which was composed of the core schools of the ACC. In the first ACRL 15s season, Virginia played very well, defeating most of its opponents by large margins. Virginia lost only one ACRL 15s match and that to Maryland. In 2021, our Club moved to the Cardinal Men’s Collegiate Rugby Conference.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA

The College of William & Mary is a public university in Williamsburg, Virginia. The school was chartered in 1693 by King William III and Queen Mary II of England and is the second oldest university in the United States. The W&M Men's Rugby Club was established in 1971 and is the highest level of men's rugby at the school. The club prides itself on being completely student run organization.
